2003 in Review

As I reflect on the year 2003 I must look back in awe. Here's some highlights from my perspective, from the personal to the impact on the world:

  • Weight Loss - I've lost about 50 pounds this year. Excercise has been the key as I peddle the recumbent bike about 4-6 times per week.
  • Moving - We moved into an area we really like and really find we can plant some roots. The whole process was quite the nightmare but the end result is worth it.
  • Blogging - Thanks to the inspiration from Hugh Hewitt this blog was inspired by Hugh's book "In, But Not Of". Also, Hugh is highly responsible for a lot of the audience that reads this blog through his generous plugs on his web site. Through blogging I've come in contact with many fascinating people from other bloggers to some great commenters.
  • In, But Not Of - This book deserves it's own entry as it's inspired both my wife and myself. Not only for the blogging tips but for the weight loss and some added success at work. Buy the book, "In, But Not Of".
  • Switchfoot - It's great that this amazing rock band is making an impact. They've sold over 500K of their new album, "The Beautiful Letdown". They are a group of guys going after greatness, not glory. Check out their website here and my blog enteries here. Within my blog entries you can hear some of their music and/or see some video.
  • For Hearts and Souls Children's Village in Zambia - An organization I helped to co-found called For Hearts and Souls has helped create an orphanage in Zambia to help orphaned children who's parents died of AIDS or have HIV/AIDS themselves. For more information go here.
  • Continued Great Teaching at Church - It's a long and weird story how we began going to North Coast Calvary Chapel but the teaching from the pulpit is remarkable and has had a huge impact on my wife and myself.
  • War with Iraq - I'm so proud of the American military and the outstanding allies that have looked evil in the face and conquered it. The fact that Saddam, Usay or Quasay can never threaten us or aid other terrorists that would threaten us is something to truly celebrate. The fact that Iraq has the chance to establish itself as a leader in the Middle East as a democracy and beacon of freedom is something worth continuing to fight for and my prayers go with the fighting men and women making that possible.
  • The Capture of Saddam - It just deserves a special entry. It is my hope that UBL is featured next year.
  • The Turn of Libya - There is no denying that Libya is now cooperating based on the doctine of pre-emption.
  • The 9 Dwarves - Never have I seen such a mess when trying to nominate a presidential candidate. All they offer is anti-Bush rhetoric. I'm still waiting for some real proposals from them that are feasible but do offer something to vote for instead of just anti-Bush. The front-runner as of this writing is Howard Dean and he really could make the Democratic Party irrelevant. A two party system is only good when both parties have something to offer.
  • Governor Arnold - In an act of desparation as the state of California begins circling the drain, Gray Davis is thrown out of office. IMO, this had to be done as our state needs quick change or else more and more jobs will get up and leave.
  • Axis of Weasles - To the countries that did all they could to thwart the liberation of Iraq - BIG FAT RASPBERRY!
