Peter Gammons on Pete Rose

ESPN.com - Gammons: Rethinking my vote for Rose

I agree with Gammons here. It doesn't matter that Rose only bet for his team to win. The fact that he could manipulate his pitching staff to those times when he's betting on his team throws out so many bad scenarios that what he's done should keep him way away from baseball. Just like in a society where there is a death penalty Pete committed the one capital offense in baseball.

I love baseball. I wanted to believe you when you said you did not bet on baseball. When you admitted to betting, I was greatly disappointed. Do not insult the fans any further, step back from baseball, leave us to the game and do not embarrass the Reds, or baseball any further. I wish you a long and healthy life, but I hope your ban is upheld by every commissioner as long as you live. Your ban should not be lifted until such time as Joe Jackson is forgiven.
