A Failed Union Leadership

SignOnSanDiego.com > News > Business -- Grocery workers set to vote on pact

Has anyone seen a union leadership let down the rank and file more than the United Food and Commercial Workers union in Southern California? I feel real bad for the workers as their leadership was using this as a political stand for health care. Guess what, most of us do pay part of our premiums and health care is expensive for those evil corporations. Oh yeah, the California Teachers Association was running some pro-United Food and Commercial Workers ads. Shame on them for making it look like their rank-and-file was taking sides. The only union that really works is the one the Major League Baseball players have. Union leadership needs to be cleaned up. How many of them didn't get paid when the poor grocery clerks were out of work? These shills for the Democratic party are bad for everybody but especially for the people they are supposed to represent.

I haven't been following this particular story too carefully, but I just think that if unions worked as hard on creating value as they did on extracting money, benefits and job protection from managment, and throwing their weight around politically, they could be a force for good.
