Kerry has his work cut out for him, since he's probably decidedly more liberal than the general electorate. He has to convince the swing, middle-ground voters that he can represent their interests as President---that he's flexible and open to their needs.

Up till now in the campaign I don't think Kerry has defined himself well, but I think he's done adequately in polls simply by being the Bush's Alternative. Karl Rove has done some pretty good damage, convincing voters that Kerry WILL raise their taxes. But unless Kerry better defines what he stands for and how he can embrace the middle ground, I think he'll fail. I don't think voters want to know what a candidate IS NOT, versus what the candidate IS.

Us conservatives learned this lesson in 1996. It was more of an anti-Clinton attitude instead of pro-Dole. In all honesty I'm so tired of the long political season. With politicians you always need to suspect motives but during this long season it is even worse. Heck, in California we've been at this since July of 2003 with the Davis recall.
