Final Goodbye

"The Great Liberator" - Baroness Margaret Thatcher in describing Ronald Reagan

I didn't have a chance to watch the services this morning but am watching on C-SPAN now. I did watch the service at the library and it was real tough to watch. For a family to have their grief and heartache on public display must be so hard. Still, my wife and I both got a chuckle when we saw Chachi (Scott Baio) near the end of the service. What the heck?

I just wish that the cameras would have not had so many closeups of family members, especially Nancy Reagan. Yes, it's public, but there need to be a space not to violate.

Oh no, Bush 41 is about to speak. I've already heard so much of his touching tribute. It reminds me of Bob Dole's tribute to Richard Nixon. True gentlemen with big hearts.

Major props to our military who were on the spot a lot this last week. Those carriers of the casket going up and down the stairs were amazing. Great job men.

Michael Reagan's tribute was so touching as he shared from his heart about the faith of his father and how he passed it down. Michael really nailed it about what is important.

Ronald Reagan will always be my president.

My favorite line from Bush 41's eulogy was "If Ronald Reagan created a better world for many millions it was because of the world someone else created for him. Nancy was there for him always. Her love for him provided much of his strength, and their love together transformed all of us as we've seen - renewed seeing again here in the last few days..."

Mrs. Reagan's incredible devotion to President Reagan after he left the White House and battled Alzheimer's was so moving to me over the years. I can't comprehend the personal strength she must have to have cared for him year after year when her heart must have been broken by what the disease did to him.

Liberals and conservatives alike seem to agree on President Reagan's personal kindness---the big heart. I have to think much of his personal big-heartedness must have come out of Nancy's love.
