Biggest Lie of this Campaign

The biggest lie is the Kerry-Edwards line that they've always had a consistent stance on Iraq.

"I have one position on Iraq. One position." - John Kerry, 9/21/04

There's no nuance here, he's just putting his finger in the air and seeing where the wind (or Democratic voters) is blowing.

We can argue back and forth here on Broken Masterpieces who waffles more and who flip-flops more. But it's been a centerpiece of the Republican campaign.

I think Kerry resonated so strongly in last Thursday's debate because he was strong and firm onstage that night. And I don't think the public expected it because of everything Rove has been telling them.

And yes it's pretty easy to be strong and firm for 90 minutes, whether you are or not in real life over the decades. So in a weird way, I think Karl Rove's emphasis on Kerry The Waffler over the past months, helped Kerry win the debate, and gain momentum.

It's like that guy with the previously godawful batting average that hit the grand slam in the Angels second to last regular season game. It had a huge impact with the fans because no one expected him to hit it.

Or maybe it's like Bush in the 2000 debates doing so well against Gore because no one expected him to do well. Kerry sort of did the same thing.
