In church today we had a guest speaker, Donnie Dee, who was talking about what an African pastor said.
American Christians believe in Christ. African Christians need Christ. (rough repeat of the quote)
Us American Christians have really got it together because we sure act like we don't need God. We don't pray enough, read the Bible enough, build other Christians up enough, serve enough. Call me guilty! We all need God but our surroundings mask that need. We are too busy and too prosperous to realize this need. When times get tough where do we go? Where is our longing and desire for Christ to be the master of our lives? Again, guilty as charged.
Posted by Tim at October 31, 2004 04:58 PMHey, what the heck do I know about this stuff, but maybe raising a family, working a daily job to support them, shuttling children to and from activities, running a public discussion forum for political and other life issues, and supporting causes you believe in should count a lot. My two cents is that you might be beating yourself up a little too much here. A lot more people like you in the world probably would please God no end.
Posted by: Tom at November 1, 2004 12:48 PMI agree with you. We've managed to marginalize God. He's there but only when we have the time to give to Him. We pray and fall asleep doing it, read our Bibles when we've exhausted all of our own solutions. In my Bible study, the leader asks frequently when will we be willing to die to self, so Christ may work through us? It's hard to do, but God loves us just the same and rejoices when we turn to him. African Christians or American Christians are all the same to the Father.
