I'm Proud of Gary Sheffield

ESPN.com - MLB - Recap - Yankees at Red Sox - After getting wacked in the mouth by a fan Gary Sheffield decided to use restraint. Bravo!

"It could have been worse if I didn't hold my composure," Sheffield said. "I almost snapped, but I thought about the consequences."

Take note everybody.

UPDATE: I wonder if the fan was going for the ball and that it was all an accident.

I saw the video of the event on the news and it looked entirely accidental to me. In fact, the impression I took away from the video clip was that Sheffield over-reacted a little. However, I was reminded by the Indigent Girlfriend that fans are not permitted to reach over the railing accidentally or not.

That was no accident. You just dont randomly whack someone in the face.

And he was "going for the ball" is a popular excuse of Boston fans, but a) There is no way. He was no where near it and not even looking at it and b) Thats still no excuse.

Then some asshole decided to throw beer on him. (People also thought that was an accident, but it wasn't. Look at the replays, the beer was flying before he was bumped and you can clearly see a hand-flicking motion)

I agree with Jeff Michael, this was no accident!!! If House was going for the ball he would have been looking at it and his arm would have been much lower. If he would have touched the ball it would have been fan interference and ruled a double instead of a triple for the Red Sox. Futhermore, watching the replay you see the guy with the beer (Donovan) take a sip of beer before he threw it at Sheffield. Bottomline: when caught on tape LIE!!!
