Bush Wants To Increase Size Of Military

Bush Calls for Increasing Size of U.S. Military - AOL News

He also said the military would be expanded to fight a long-term battle against terrorism.

I think Rumsfeld's biggest mistake was trying to transform the military too quickly. The transformational ideas are good but he made it an all or nothing proposal. I understand he did that because of all the opposition he would get on his ideas. It just couldn't be done. We need more troops to be able to continue to fight the war on terror.

"If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail" I heard this somewhere and I think it is very true. I believe the state department/humanitarian aid and special forces will/can do more to fight terrorism than the blunt instrument that is the general military. The army fights terrorism like chemo fights cancer, and is about as effective, it's a 50/50 proposition.
