MSNBC/Newseeek - A Shot At Modesty

This MSNBC/Newsweek describes an attempt to teach young ladies a bit about modesty. It seems to set too many hard standards but is worth a shot. More than once I've gotten a thong shot from the girl/woman in front of me in church. Dang ladies, leave a little to the imagination. Heck moms, clothe your girls.

Texas School District Bans Boobs

keyetv.com - Texas School District Bans Cleavage

The new dress code reads, in part, "The display of cleavage is unacceptable. Low cut blouses, tops, sweaters, etc. with plunging necklines are not allowed."

As the father of two sons I'd like to see more districts do things like this. It's an instance of the school district helping the parents of the young ladies, that's for sure. Sorry kids, but young ladies shouldn't have their boobs hanging out.

Other Courts Need To Learn

Newsday.com: NY court rules against gay marriage

Judge Robert Smith said New York's marriage law clearly limits marriage to between a man and a woman and any change in the law should come from the state Legislature.

I can't believe an NY court actually didn't try to take the law into their own hands. I guess I'm used to being in California too much, where the upper courts decide to make their own laws.

Earl Woods

As most have already heard/read, the father of Tiger Woods has passed away. Many would say Earl Woods pushed Tiger into golf. As a parent I would not do what he did but when you look at the end result it sure seemed like Mr. Woods and Tiger were quite close. I don't see Tiger complaining at all. Good for all of them and I hope they all find comfort in Christ through these tough times.

Arnold to Veto Same-Sex Bill

Schwarzenegger will veto gay marriage bill - Politics - MSNBC.com

Schwarzenegger said the legislation, given final approval Tuesday by lawmakers, would conflict with the intent of voters when they approved an initiative five years ago. Proposition 22 was placed on the ballot to prevent California from recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states or countries.

See Californians? This alone was worth dumping Gray Davis. We voted and our legislators need to recognize and respect theresult.

SF Judge Striking Down California Marriage Laws

SignOnSanDiego.com > News > State -- Judge finds California's marriage law unconstitutional

San Francisco County Superior Court Judge Richard Kramer struck down not only the state's one man-one woman marriage law but also Proposition 22, a 2000 voter initiative that prevented California from recognizing same-sex marriages performed elsewhere.

The continuing of special interest groups to shop for friendly judges is sickening. Even more sickening is the fact that this one judge has more power than anyone else. This isn't checks and balances it's a judge making decisions based on their own beliefs instead of the law.

One Of The Best Days Of The Year

Today (Christmas Eve) is our most traditional days of the year. We always go to the 3:00 o'clock service at NCCC. Afterwards we go to a restaraunt for a quick dinner then head home. We get the hot chocolate going, bring out the donuts and turn on the Ralphie Movie:

We then do a small secret pal gift exchange (this is something we also do with our extended family). Then we head to bead and wait for the big guy to make his annual visit. This is a time all four of us treasure as it is truly something we do together. Someday, my sons will grow up and will create their own traditions and ours will evolve somehow. At least for now, I've got at least nine more of these in the coming years and will treasure them.

Merry Christmas!

What Is Online Porn Doing To Us?

MSNBC - Addiction to porn destroying lives, Senate told

But he pointed to studies that show prolonged use of pornography leads to "sexual callousness, the erosion of family values and diminished sexual satisfaction."

It's my firm belief that there needs to be internet porn rules that allow families to easily block porn from coming into our homes. The absolute fact that you can get an email and be one click away from seeing anything beyond your imagination is just horrid. One moment of weakness or a child being online and getting an email like this just opens a door that is tough to close. With porn or any other addiction you just don't want to open that door. Their are too many stories of horrible addiction to porn.

I should be able to tell my ISP to block all porn and they should easily be able to do it. I don't even want the tempation. My sons have email addresses but don't have the password. I have to open it for them so I can clear out the junk. It's a sick world and online porn is another thing to fight. It's what is wrong with the "internets".

Against Gay Marriage?

Sign this.

I'm open to just about anything between consulting adults but can't support marriage for anyone but an unrelated man and woman. I also wish it were a bit harder for anyone to just get married. How about some counseling first but that's a different discussion.

Church Porn Site?

Tip to Adrian Warnock.

Check out XXXChurch, the #1 Christian Porn Site. OK, if you don't understand, it is an anti-pornography site. I just spent a little time checking it out. As a father of two boys the availability of porno is mind-blowing. There is absolutely nothing good about porno and I want to make sure that it stays away from my kids. Parents, my first real exposure to pornography was a friend who had access to his father's Playboy magazines. What is even worse was the father was a pastor. We need to be real careful but first we must set the exampe ourselves. Heck, just a few minutes ago I received an email that was pornographic without ANY clicking. Just going through my daily purge of SPAM it just showed up. I have a feeling that this will not get better. We need to be quick with the delete buttons and get rid of that stuff ASAP. We owe it to our God, our wives and our children.

Unbelievable

MSNBC - Calif. Catholic group must provide birth control

I cannot believe that an organization that has it's base in a religious faith is being told what it can and cannot do when it comes to tenants of a faith. This is why I'm against things like gay marriage and the like. It will end up forcing organizations like this to abide by gay marriage. This will end up hurting charities which will hurt society.

Thinking Out Loud - Gay Marriage

From FoxNews we get the following quote:

"We applied for spousal privilege and were denied it by the state. As a result, everything that I said to Kelli, every letter that I wrote her, every e-mail, every correspondence and conversation was entered into the record," O'Donnell said. "After the trial, I am now and will forever be a total proponent of gay marriage."

As anyone who's read this blog knows, I'm against gay marriage. At the same time I cannot believe that Rosie O'Donnell's partner's communications with her was not kept out of the trial. Dang it, this is just not right. Problems like this, visitation rights and some other things need to be taken care of or we will get gay marriages. These are people made in the image of God, whom God loves and deserve dignity. I do not agree with their lifestyle and am against gay marriage but some of these are a denial of civil rights.

Did you know that if a young man is dying of AIDS and has a "life partner" his parents can deny the lover access to hospital visits? Again, there needs to be an option for homosexuals to take so that they are not denied their civil rights. At the same time legal marriage would mean that people/businesses who don't want to support gay marriage will have to when it comes to medical benefits and other things. I don't want to even mention the real harm that will be done to the fabric of our society.

I have a feeling that gay marriage will be sanctioned within the next 5-10 years. What are we to do? What happens when a married lesbian couple moves across the street? Are we going to react by telling them "I don't sanction your marriage"? What is going to happen when our kids are on the same Little League team as a kid from a married gay couple? As Christians how are we supposed to behave? I say love, dignity and respect must win out. What is our reaction if a couple comes into our church? (that was a last minute thought)

As the title says, I'm thinking out loud. What are your thoughts? I could care less whether you agree or disagree with me but these are issues we need to think about. In fact, the left will think I'm some homophobe bigot and some on the Christian right will think I've sold out. Oh well. This is one of those WWJD questions.

KMC - Why "Marriage" Instead of "Civil Unions"

WorldNetDaily: States to Massachusetts court: We don't think so!

Kevin McCullough brings some valuable insight on why legal "marriage" is the goal for homosexual couples. His points about guilt and acceptance are right on. It's an excellent article and one that should make you think.

I think the one issue that will need to be addressed though is the issue of "born gay". If they are able to convince the public they are born that way then the battle could become tougher to win for the believers in traditional marriage. Now is the time to pass a constitutional amendment that defines marriage as between one man and one woman.

At the same time this cannot be an issue where conservative Christians turn ugly. We must approach this issue with love and compassion while at the same time not compromising our values. I'm still trying out how to approach this issue myself. The issue of what marriage is represents a big part of what America is and will be. It's not a theocracy issue but is something society will need to make a decision on real soon. Hearts and minds need to be won by quality reasoning.

First Wisdom For Parents

Ephesians 6:4 - Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

This is one of those scriptures that us parents need to keep at the forefront of our thoughts as we deal with our children. Make sure to cross reference Psalm 23:4 (Thy rod and Thy staff, the comfort me) when interpreting the word, discipline. Too much of discipline we turn into just correction. Correction is needed but is not the "all" of discipline.
