What a Game - Super Bowl 42

What an amazing football game. As a Dolphin fan from back in the day, I'm also happy to see the Patriots lose.

Chargers Last Stand?

ESPN - Above 'The Norv' hangs a cloud of skepticism, win or lose - NFL

As I look at the Chargers vs. the Patriots I really can't imagine any situation where the Chargers can win today. A team like the Patriots comes along once in a lifetime and I don't see the Chargers having any chance at winning today. This is the wrong season to judge whether the Chargers season is a success. At least Norv Turner was able to get the Chargers up one more level. When it came down to crunch time Norv didn't screw up and that's progress. If the season ends today it won't be as heartbreaking as last year.

It will take a miracle but, GO CHARGERS!

Drew Brees Forced Out Of San Diego

SignOnSanDiego.com > San Diego Chargers -- Drew Brees will be marchin' in with the Saints - For various reasons the San Diego Chargers let Drew Brees, Pro Bowl QB, go as a free agent. It's too bad the Brees had to leave and I wish him the best. He seems to be a quality guy and it was great to see him become a very good quarterback.

Goodbye Monday Night Football on ABC

I remember as a child just dying for the MNF halftime show. It was really one of the only places where you got to see NFL highlights. Of course times have changed and I very rarely watched MNF anymore. Still, there are some great memories; Bo vs. Seattle, Dolphins beating Bears in '85, Earl Campbell busting loose in '78, Favre, Howard, Dandy Don, and so much more.

A special toast to Chet Forte, the amazing director who ended up with a gambling problem and was never given a proper send off. He did get his life together and was a talk show host in San Diego until his death in 1996 (I think). He helped make Monday night different than any other game.

Salute to the Colts and Chargers

SignOnSanDiego.com > San Diego Chargers -- Perfect ending

It was great to see the Colts going all out in trying to have a perfect season. As an old-school Dolphin fan I'm kind of glad they lost. At the same time, as a transplanted San Diegan, it was great to see the Bolts nut-up and get this huge victory. The Chargers are an excellent team and if they make it to the playoffs, have a great shot at doing some real damage.

Reggie Bush

I'm watching the USC-UCLA game (I don't watch much football anymore) and I just can't believe Reggie Bush. He has over 200 yards rushing before halftime! He reminds me a bit of Billy Sims and I wonder if he just might be the best tailback ever at USC. Yes, that would say a lot when you think of Mike Garrett, the wife killer, Anthony Davis, Ricky Bell, Charles White and Marcus Allen. Bush fits comfortablty in that group and would be shocked if he wasn't the first pick in the NFL draft, if he chooses to come out early (he's still a junior). This guy is worth the price of admission.

The Greatest NFL Player Retires

SignOnSanDiego.com > Sports -- Jerry Rice retires from football

His agent, Jim Steiner, has said if Rice retired this time, he would not try to come back with another team. If that's so, Rice will close his career with 38 NFL records, including those for career receptions (1,549), yards receiving (22,895) and touchdowns receiving (197).

Nobody worked harder and nobody was better.

Flutie Released By Chargers

ESPN.com - NFL - Released by SD, is Flutie done in the NFL? - If he's done he'll be missed. Doug Flutie is a class act and his heart and courage on the field has to be admired.

Brees or Rivers

The San Diego Chargers find themselves with a ton of riches at the quarterback position. Based on the 2004 season, common sense would dictate that Drew Brees would be signed to a long-term contract and Phil Rivers would be traded. If the Chargers decided to be real risky they'd trade Brees instead since he has the higher trade value. I hope the Chargers keep Brees, he's earned it.

Big Mouth with Heart, Big Mouth without Heart

Like many of us I was tired of both TO and Freddie Mitchell from the last 2 weeks. After the Super Bowl the respect-o-meter from TO went off the charts. Even though his team lost, TO was remarkable. Maybe if the other big mouth decided to show up the Eagles would be celebrating.

Great Season For The Chargers and a Mea Culpa

Despite the heartbreaking loss, congratulations to the Chargers on a great season. Of course, I was greatly wrong about the Chargers during the whole Eli Manning controversy.

USC, the BCS and a Playoff

As a fan (not a real big one) of USC football I think they got ripped off by the BCS system. Saying that, calls for a playoff in college football is still a bad idea. This is COLLEGE! They already are playing 12-13 games. I thought the purpose of college was education. My bad.
