Cutting The Deficit?

CNN.com - Bush pushes second-term agenda - Dec 20, 2004

"We will submit a budget that fits the times. It will provide every tool and resource to the military, will protect the homeland, and meet other priorities of the government," he said.

Let's just hope there aren't anymore entitlements created over the next 4 years.

Pork Invading Republican Incumbents

From RealClearPolitics.

OpinionJournal - Lost GOP Souls

I know the response to 9/11 meant to kick the "lockbox" down the congressional steps and open it up to defend our country. This did not mean to spend on everything else.

The pork issues are what really tick me off and one big reason I'm a fan of term limits. In my world I'd want one 6 year term for President, 2 6 year terms for Senator and 6 2 year terms for the House.

May 2004 Job Growth

Job growth strong again in May - Jun. 4, 2004

The job increase was broad-based, with only government employment falling in the period.

Now that's the best economic news I've heard in a while. The last thing we need is growth of government employees. Other than the military, let's get some across-the-board hiring freezes implemented.

Bush To Propose Spending Cuts

Drudge is reporting that the Bush administration will propose across-the-board domestic spending cuts. I hope this is true. Let's get this deficit under control. My biggest complaint about Bush has been his lack of vetos of spending bills. Let's spend what we need on defending our country but cut down on other spending. Keep cutting taxes and cut some spending to keep this economy rolling.

UPDATE: MSNBC has the details here. I'm not hopeful of anything meaningful at all. It's just cuts in the growth of spending. Remember when the government "closed" during the Clinton/Gingrich budget battles? They said only essential people would still go to work. Well, if anyone is non-essential to the government then the "workfare" must end.

Who's Paying For NPR?

I watched a bit of O'Reilly tonight and he played an excerpt of his interview with NPR. He's asking, why was the hostess so easy on Al Franken and tough on O'Reilly? He knows the answer just like everyone else, us taxpayers support NPR but they are NOT "fair and balanced". What a waste.

Public Buses

Just an observation, but why do so many buses have so few people inside of them? I'm sure these buses do not make enough money to cover costs. Seems that with all the budget problems that every government seems to be having that limiting the routes to at least break even would be good and smart policy. Am I missing something? It would probably be cheaper just to give the riders a car.
