Stingray Sting Update and a Surfer Chick Doctor

A quick update on my sting by a stingray, my wound didn't look so good so I called my doctor's office and they told me to go to urgent care. The doctor treating me was a surfer chick. How cool is that? She understood all I was dealing with, took some X-rays (looking for stinger - none found) and gave me some antibiotics. Looks like everything is OK but I just need to keep my eye on it.

Stung By A Stingray

My final official day of vacation was to be spent surfing with some other folks from church. About 10 minutes into the session 2 of our guys collided and one of the boards sustained major damage. As those 2 went to the beach I felt stab into my foot and for the SECOND time in my life I got stung by a stingray. Fortunately, I was with some great folks and one of the guys went over to 7-11 to get some hydrogen peroxide and other helpful things to get me to a point where I could drive home and get some real hot water on it. Everything is fine, but that was truly a sucky surf "session".

Catch a Wave and You're Sitting On Top of the World

I finally got my lazy tail out in the water this morning for the first time this year. I am the worst but at least was able to stand up a little. I need to work on my pop-up, strength and flexibility but can't wait to go again.

Spotlight - Laird Hamilton

First spotlight is on Laird Hamilton, surf legend. He's invented or pioneered new techniques in surfing that has enabled him and other big wave surfers to reach new heights never imagined. The picture below is from Teahupoo, Tahiti in 2000 when he caught the best wave any surfer has ever caught. To catch some more amazing photos check out Tim McKenna's sight.
