Rubin - Let's Raise Taxes

OpinionJournal - Featured Article

"You cannot solve the nation's fiscal problems without increased revenues," declared Mr. Rubin, the Democratic Party's leading economic spokesman, in a speech last Thursday. He also took a crack at economic forecasting by noting that "I think if you were to increase taxes right now, you would have probably about zero negative effect on the economy." The economics and politics here are worth parsing.

Here is an opportunity for Republicans to contrast Democrats and Republicans. The Republicans need to counter that current spending needs to be reduces and to show what a tax increase means to peoples' paychecks.

Figuring Out Mother-in-law Taxes

I've spent the last few hours pouring over local tax laws (very little on line) and IRS laws trying to figure out the tax basis for my mother-in-law's sale of her previous house and purchase of a new one. I've got a horrible headache from it and still am not positive about the final answer. Why is it so difficult to find this information out? Calling Steve Forbes..... FLAT TAX!
