K-Lo on Schiavo Autopsy Report

The Corner on National Review Online - KJ Loez sums up my feelings quite well about the release of the autopsy report on Terri Schiavo. It still came down to death by starving and dehydration.

NRO - “Next time it will be easier. It Always is."

The Editors on Terri Schiavo on National Review Online

Next time it will be easier. It always is. The tolerance of early-term abortion made it possible to tolerate partial-birth abortion, and to give advanced thinkers a hearing when they advocate outright infanticide. Letting the courts decide such life-and-death issues made it possible for us to let them decide others, made it seem somehow wrong for anyone to stand in their way. Now they are helping to snuff out the minimally conscious. Who's next?

Steyn - No Compelling Reason To Kill Terri Schiavo

Tip to Michelle Malkin.

No compelling reason to kill Terri Schiavo

...why not err in favor of the non-irreversible option?

Couldn't agree more.

"Another Day In Paradise"

Terri's Hell: A day in paradise to Michael's attorney
- Kevin McCullough has an MP3 worth listening to. I still can't believe that people don't want to at least take a look at Terri and what she is capable of. Instead, I see that some folks just want a victory against conservatives, no matter the cost. The worst thing that happened to this case was the entry of Randall Terry. He does not help the pro-life cause at all.

We, rightly, give the benefit of the doubt to the cause of life in death penalty cases but not to Terri Schiavo. The prejudices for the cause of euthanasia nor against pro-life conservatives cannot be ignored in cases like this.

In the case of Terri's wishes, the one with the better lawyers won.

Thoughts on the Schiavo Case

Here are some of the issues/thoughts I have about the Schiavo case (without many conclusions or judgements):

  • It seems that Michael Schiavo basically gave up on his wife ever recovering from her injuries after about 2-3 years of doing all he could to rehab her.
  • Why would a man have legal custody over someone who he's decided to be unfaithful to?
  • Something between Michael Schiavo and the Schindlers happened once the damages were awarded around 1993.
  • Why wouldn't there be an autopsy? With the cremation to occur it looks like Michael Schiavo has something to hide.
  • Why would a judge take the word of a man who only spoke about his wife's wishes once he seemed to take a new start in life?
  • There are two completely different views of Terri's condition as of 3/26/05 (beginning day 9 of her starvation).
  • Why can't someone try and feed Terri through her mouth.
  • If Michael Schiavo had not began a new life with another woman then I'd still respect him as Terri's husband. He gave that up a long time ago and I don't see why judges can't see that.
  • If the Republicans were making this such a political issue then why is it mostly Democrats saying that the Republicans are playing politics, yet the polls show that this is not a winning issue for Republicans.
  • I am disgusted at how people are just so willing to pull the plug on someone when so many questions have been unanswered.
  • Randall Terry is the wrong face to attach to the Schindler's cause. His tactics are horrible.

So many issues/questions, yet this woman is basically sentenced to die. That is something that cannot be undone.

    She Wants To Live?

My Last Visit with Terri Schiavo - Christianity Today Magazine

The most dramatic event of this visit happened at one point when I was sitting on Terri's bed next to Suzanne. Terri was sitting in her lounge chair and her aunt was standing at the foot of the chair. I stood up and learned over Terri. I took her arms in both of my hands. I said to her, "Terri if you could only say 'I want to live' this whole thing could be over today." I begged her to try very hard to say, "I want to live." To my enormous shock and surprise, Terri's eyes opened wide, she looked me square in the face, and with a look of great concentration, she said, "Ahhhhhhh." Then, seeming to summon up all the strength she had, she virtually screamed, "Waaaaaaaa." She yelled so loudly that Michael Vitadamo, Suzanne's husband, and the female police officer who were then standing together outside Terri's door, clearly heard her. At that point, Terri had a look of anguish on her face that I had never seen before and she seemed to be struggling hard, but was unable to complete the sentence. She became very frustrated and began to cry. I was horrified that I was obviously causing Terri so much anguish. Suzanne and I began to stroke Terri's face and hair to comfort her. I told Terri I was very sorry. I told Terri I was very sorry. It had not been my intention to upset her so much. Suzanne and I assured Terri that her efforts were much appreciated and that she did not need to try to say anything more. I promised Terri I would tell the world that she had tried to say, "I want to live."

Why can't Terri have a voice? Are all the folks that want Terri to die sure that she wants to die? When in doubt, choose life.

    What Did Michael Schiavo Say?

NickQueen.com: Huge Admission By Micheal Schiavo on Larry King

KING: Do you understand how they feel?

    M. SCHIAVO: Yes, I do. But this is not about them, it's about Terri. And I've also said that in court. We didn't know what Terri wanted, but this is what we want...

    Say again?

    They've Removed Terri's Feeding Tube

Take a look at this Peggy Noonan column. Basically, she says to pull out all the stops to keep Terri from being killed. Actually, the action to kill her has now been taken. Continuing to not provide her nourishment continues this cruel action. Any care provider that would intentionally do this action is a killer and they know it. This is something you quit your job over instead of carrying out the order. Terri is awake and consious. Yes, she's brain damaged but does that warrant the death penalty?

George W. Bush on Terri Schiavo

    CNN.com - Supreme Court rejects Schiavo appeal - Mar 17, 2005

With time running out in the case, President Bush weighed in on the matter Thursday, saying society and the nation's courts "should have a presumption in favor of life" on such matters.

"Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed and protected -- and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities," Bush said in a written statement.

I just can't believe someone is going to actually remove the feeding tube of someone who has their eyes opened, responds to others and is not in a vegetative state. This is sad and a stain on our society. The fact that so many want her killed is horrid.
