Castro resigns as president, state-run paper reports - CNN.com Fidel Castro announced his resignation as president of Cuba and commander-in-chief of Cuba's military on Tuesday, according to a letter published in the state-run newspaper, Granma. It's the beginning of the end of communist Cuba. Once all those old commies are gone then Cuba will be on their way from the horrible scourge of communism. CNN.com - Rice urges Cubans to stay put - Aug 4, 2006 "We encourage the people of Cuba to work at home for positive change," Rice said, signaling that the United States would not favor a mass exodus of the kind that Cubans undertook in 1980 and 1994. I infrequently find myself at odds with our Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, but telling people to stay in Cuba and wait it out is like telling a battered woman to stay at home with their abusive husbands; "Don't worry ma'am, the counseling will kick in some day. Just stay at home and keep getting the crap kicked out of you because you might inconvenience someone else." I've really hated the policy that the Clinton Administration started (and Bush has continued) that has done all they can to keep Cubans from reaching the Florida beaches. We used to help them now we grab them and send them back to hell. NICE! The American Spectator - Che Day - Andrew Cline has a great article on the absolute silliness of some on the left who wear those "Che" shirts. Guevara was a madman on the scale of Saddam, Lenin, Hitler, etc. Fortunately, he was executed in 1967. This was a man who would murder those protestor types in a heartbeat. Watching the video tape of Fidel Castro biting it and getting broken up it brings up thoughts of when this evil tyrant dies. What will happen in Cuba? I'm predicting chaos. Will this be an unexpected time of opportunity for the Commies to be overthrown? Would Bush or Kerry (Mr. nuance and UN) handle it better? Something to think about. There is also footage of Elian front and center at a big communist party celebration, Castro by his side. So he is private perhaps, but also, whether his father likes it or not, a national symbol, in a country that loves symbols. He's not a national symbol, but a tool used by a horrible dictator. I cannot wait until regime change in Cuba. MSNBC - Cubans sailing vintage car caught off Florida Everytime I read one of these stories it's our Coast Guard that is catching them and returning them to Castro. How can our country be authorizing this? We need to not return anyone to a country like Castro's Cuba unless they willingly want to go back. Every time I see Cuban refugees trying to get to Florida and then are stopped by the Coast Guard it makes me so mad. These poor people are actually getting sent back to Cuba. What the heck do they think is going to happen to them in Castro's Cuba? I know that it's not the Coast Guard's fault. It used to be that they were welcomed in. I need to look into this some more.February 19, 2008
